Sep 3, 2018 - This is perhaps the only free porn blocking software that works on all sorts of devices, such as, PCs (Mac and Windows), smart phones (iOS.
To be honest with you, you can find a program that can do all of this for you, but there will still be ways. Even if he finds you installed this, he can just go to a proxy website and surf the net that way just the same. My advice to you would be to give your nephew an ultimatum. He either stays off the porn or he doesn't use the computer, period. He needs to understand that porn sites are the most attacked and virus filled websites out there. So him doing that (especially if you have no security on your PC) is basically walking point blank into an attack.
I know this isn't exactly the answer you're looking for, but the law has to be established somehow. As a kid, my parents had a block on it with antivirus. I was able to get around it quite easily. Funny point to add, I mostly wanted to get to FML and southparkstudios. I was able to get around it quite easily. Funny point to add, I mostly wanted to get to FML and southparkstudiosWhen I was a kid (I'm about to show my relatively young age here) my dad had an 802.11b wireless network that he had MAC address whitelisting on. My WLAN adapter MAC would only be whitelisted during the day to prevent me from using my PC late into the night and early morning.
This worked for about a day. Until I spoofed his MAC address, which also had the hilarious consequence of dropping his connectivity intermittently. After he figured it out, he called me over trying to look angry. Then died laughing and said he didn't know whether to be pissed off or impressed. I think it's reasonable to control your childs use of the Internet, but he will likely figure out how to subvert whatever controls you put in place. But, at the very least, over the course of your technological arms race trying to block his access he might learn something.
I think a frank discussion with him about pornography and why it is not something he should be consuming will probably have more effect than attempting to prevent his access. Thanks everyone, Going to try the OpenDNS, public DNS servers dispersed by the router via DHCP for now. My Nephew got caught by us looking at his browser history and the fact that the computer he uses 'mysteriously' gets all the viruses and malware other devices running Win 10 in the house don't.
The computer was so bad today it had to be wiped and reloaded today. Will test Sophos on a test comp and see how it goes.
I have older comps and an worried about the slowdown. So far I've been able to get by with the built in AV of Windows 10 and good home users who know where not to go and how to spot social engineering scams, but in this case it wasn't enough. I have a file server that has all the important stuff, backed up three different ways and running Panda AV so I'm not worried about data loss to much. As for the nephew, He has had a good talking to and has been scared pretty bad (he is 12 and was surfing what might have been considered child porn!) and if something like this happens again we won't be wasting time trying to figure out the why or who.; ). I fight this battle all day with the students.
You will lose. Nothing can totally stop it from coming into your network. OpenDNS is a great option, until the kid places the DNS on their local adapter to 8.8.8.8, a squid proxy could work.
If you want to 100% block it, you will have to use a pessimistic proxy/filter that will only allow white listed traffic. Nothing works as well as parenting. Realize that a adolescent surfing porn is developmentally normal. They are learning to explore their own sexuality and that of their peers/society.
The adults in their life need to be truthful in talking to them openly and honestly about being a sexual person. Otherwise you are fighting an ever accelerating arms race, against an enemy that has NOTHING better to do than to try to bypass your filter and see porn.
How to block pornographic content The Internet is an amazing resource, full of information and entertainment for all ages. However, a good chunk of the web is filled with adult and pornographic content that kids should not be exposed, and some adults don't want to visit. In this guide, we will provide some step by step tools and techniques to allow you to quickly and easily block pornographic content across any device that access the web.
That will help you be confident that your kids are not accessing any explicit content and your home computers are clean. Step 1: Restrict access to adult content. The first step to block access to pornographic content is by setting up an Internet Filter to actually block access to those sites. There are multiple options available, from browser extensions to installing nanny-like software. In this guide, we will recommend using one of the most simple, but very powerful forms of Internet filtering: via DNS. 'DNS is the Internet protocol that converts website names (called domain names) to IP addresses. Filters at that level prevents the DNS resolution for the blocked sites, so their content is never loaded.
It is the fastest way to block sites. This kind of filtering is the one done by OpenDNS, Norton Family Filter and similar services.' Every device needs to use DNS to connect to the Internet, so this type of filtering works everywhere. All you have to do is open the device Settings, look for Network Settings or Wifi Settings and change the DNS servers (also called NameServers) to the IP address provided by your Internet Filter.
